Ran out of nanobots plain and simple. Something that I am SO glad the Russo brothers accounted for was the fact that with how powerful this armor is, it almost seems like a Deus ex Machina, in that it can do whatever the plot needs it to. BUT because of this limitation, they made it a much better armor in terms of the story. Think about it, before Stark fought Thanos, he had:
