The next time a Democratic President is elected with Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, the party is likely going to make a hard push for single-payer health care, probably in the form of Medicare-for-all. But the last time they had that lucky partisan alignment - 2009–10 - they couldn’t get enough Democrats in line to forestall a Republican filibuster unless they made some concessions in the Affordable Care Act to moderate Democrats, such as not including a public option.
